FAREWELL ADDRESS BY THE OUT-GOING PRESIDENT OF GSSAE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION HON. DAVID LAWRENCE

Dear Members,

On behalf of the Executive Committee, I would like to use this medium to thank all of you for journeying with us these past 3 1/2 years. When we started out in 2015, the road was not very clear but through painstaking efforts and commitment, we were able to make great strides to the glory of the Almighty God.

The Alumni Association my team and I are handing over today is one with great focus and solid structures. We have been able to institute programs and initiatives that cuts across many areas of activities as you will see in the General Secretary’s report but please permit me to touch on two of these programmes:

1.    Sponsorship & Award Programme – As at July 2018, we had successfully participated in two Graduation and Award ceremonies of our Alma mater. At the last event we provided awards and prizes to deserving students and teachers worth over N1 million. This is a key programme that we hope the Alumni will continue to execute given its pivotal role in the development and enhancement of academic excellence in our school. Suffice it to say that this initiative has been so very well received and has really contributed to boosting the academic performance of our students with many winning stateand national honours. It is one that is very well anticipated by the students and staff and we are grateful to all the sponsors who have helped to sustain it while we look forward to having more partner support.

  1. Classroom Block Renovation Project – This has been our flagship infrastructure project, spanning a period of almost 2 years. We are indeed quite pleased that we could complete this project during our tenure. It is a project that has far reaching impact in the wellbeing of the students and their academic performance. The project is now being handed over to the school administration with the hope that it will be well maintained and put to optimal use.

Again, I wish to thank you most sincerely for all your support and your steadfastness in sustaining the Alumni Association up to this point and ask you to extend similar support to the incoming administration to help take our dear Alumni to greater heights. Thank you!

    Rt. Honourable David Lawrence
    President, 2015 – 2019
